Single beds and twin beds are the same kind of bed since they are designed for only one person. The average size of the mattress is 75 inches by 39 inches. A single bed requires a single mattress and this can fit into any small bedroom. The single bed is the most common choice for children’s bedrooms and guest rooms.

When buying a single mattress, it can be overwhelming due to the multiple options. This is particularly when you have back pain and neck pain. Your choice of mattress can make a difference in spreading the good feeling or pain in your day.

When you buy single mattresses online or any size of mattress at that, it is primarily based on your preference. That is why you have to be familiar with the materials that these mattresses can be made of. You can choose from the memory foam, hybrid, inner spring, latex mattresses, and air mattresses. The innerspring type uses coils which give you the usual bouncy feel and strong support. The latex ones offer more bounce and responsiveness than the innerspring. The hybrid type is a mix of memory foam or latex layers and the innerspring, aiming to provide softness and body support. The memory foam type is designed to support the contour of the body, reducing its pressure.

When buying a mattress, it is also crucial to ask your family physician or physical therapist if you suffer from neck and back pain. You must aim for the low back and neck to stay in a neutral position while lying on a mattress. This will help ensure spine alignment.

One other thing to consider is your sleeping position. There is a recommended mattress type for each type of sleeper. The back sleeper for instance needs a medium firm feel that is in the middle of the two extremes. Side sleepers on the other hand need a softer mattress to relieve pressure at the shoulder and hip areas. Those who are stomach sleepers need the ultra-firm type of mattress. This will lift the hips to become in line with one’s shoulders. Then there are those who are combo sleepers or those who combine all the three positions when sleeping. These people need beds that are more dynamic and able to support the back, side, and stomach.

You also have to choose the level of firmness based on whether you are a light sleeper, average sleeper, or heavy sleeper. Of course you also need to consider your budget. You can save much when you buy during the holidays whether it is Labor Day, Memorial Day, or President’s Day. Mattress makers often hold big sales during these days. Always aim for a high-value mattress. You can check if it has a super solid warranty.
